Camp Bestival 2017 – Here we come!

This month we are going to Camp Bestival!

The last time I went to a proper festival was years ago when I was a wild, careless teenager.

I have some fantastic memories, watching my my favourite bands in magnificent crowds and sitting around the campfire with friends chatting, singing and drinking into the early hours. Although you pretty much live like a tramp for the weekend, there is a high chance you will get urine thrown at you and the toilet situation is DISGUSTING, you can’t beat a festival atmosphere.

Camp Bestival an award winning family festival set in the beautiful grounds of Lulworth Castle, Dorset, which is actually really close to where we live. It is totally different to any festival I’ve been to and I’m ridiculously excited to spend the weekend somewhere fun-filled, safe and child friendly with my brood.

We’ve been looking forward to it for weeks, but I do have to admit I’m nervous. I’ve never been camping with my children and I have to admit, the thought of it brings me makes me a teeny bit apprehensive. My two little terrors are a handful and I’m not exactly a breezy, outdoorsy kind of gal nowadays.. BUT I know it will be an amazing experience.

It’s the 10th anniversary this year and the musical line up looks SO good. I’m especially looking forward to seeing Mark Ronson, Louisa Johnson, All Saints and Kate Nash but there is something for everybody’s musical tastes. As well as three days of on-stage music and DJ sets there are live children’s shows and comedy, theatre, authors, poets, authors, food stalls and awesome attractions and activities. What also appealed to me was the ‘slow motion’ area, which includes massage, proper showers, parent and child reiki, yoga, hair braiding and body art. I doubt very much I am going to spend much time here (I wish) but it does sound pretty cool.

Lucas is going to have the time of his life. I have been telling him all about it and showing him videos, he’s mostly looking forward to going on the worlds biggest bouncy castle, tree climbing and outdoor zip-line, watching School of Rock and the Chelsea FC football camp. I can’t wait to see Ava’s face when she sees CBeebies favourites Mr Tumble and Mister Maker, who she absolutely loves and I’m not going to lie, so do I! I also think she will really enjoy the soft play and petting corner. There is SO MUCH going on every day I don’t think there will be a chance for any of us to be bored and I just hope we can do and see as much as possible.

We have our tent and camping supplies sorted and now for the dreaded task of packing everything and Dan’s job of fitting it all in the car. I am keeping everything crossed that the weather stays dry, the kids sleep well in the tent and that hopefully I don’t lose them in a field. If any of you have been to Camp Bestival, are going this year or have done festivals with children I would love to hear your stories and tips!

Please visit the Official Camp Bestival Website for the full line up or if you are interested in last minute tickets.

  1. We’re going this year for our first time to camp bestival.

We’ve done carfest with our two LO’s for the last three years and fancied a change and CB looks amazing! My eldest (7) will be probably found in the sports zone most of the day and the youngest (6 on the Sunday – he’s going to think the fireworks are for him!) can’t wait to see Mister Tumble and Mr Maker too!

From our experience of festivals with the kids it pays to take packed lunches for them into the site each day as they are picky so and so’s at times (usually after you’ve just shelled out £10 for a plain cheese pizza that they’d eat every day if they could!!). We write our phone numbers on their arms in sharpie on the first day and normally still there when we leave.

They’ll wake up early and go to bed late each night so expect tantrums by the Sunday, and that’ll just be from your OH!! đŸ˜‚đŸ˜‚

Can’t wait for the weekend now, the car is more or less packed already with all the camping gear. Just gotta find room for our clothes, wellies and supplies…

Enjoy your first family festival and let’s hope the weather brightens up!!
